Fine art painter with a practice centring around representation of the human form. Interested in the evolution of figurative realism within western classicism, reflections on the phenomenon of vision; and a fascination with the expressiveness of materials.

Simon first studied English literature and Philosophy, obtaining a Bachelor of Arts in 1997. He took up painting as an extension of an interest in Art History and Aesthetics, and after ten years practicing art returned in 2007 to academic study, obtaining an MFA from Whitecliffe College of Art and Design in 2009.

Simon has been exhibited in Japan, New Zealand, Canada, and France; notably at BRKLYN in Beaubourg, Paris.

Simon has a range of experience with materials and surfaces and an equally diverse range of interests. Within the last few years he has added an interest in the notion of repurposing discarded materials as a means of interrogating the growing global culture of accumulation and obsolescence. This exists as an extension of his collector's approach to reference materials.

He continues through his art practice to express his unique and personal voice as a representational painter. Utilizing at times a pared-down set of materials in an effort to capture a sense of lightness and immediacy within his work.

Peintre d'art dont la pratique est centrée sur la représentation de la forme humaine. Il s'intéresse à l'évolution du réalisme figuratif dans le classicisme occidental, aux réflexions sur le phénomène de la vision et à la fascination pour l'expressivité des matériaux.

Simon a d'abord étudié la littérature anglaise et la philosophie, obtenant une licence en arts en 1997. Il s'est mis à la peinture pour prolonger son intérêt pour l'histoire de l'art et l'esthétique. Après dix ans de pratique artistique, il a repris ses études en 2007 et obtenu une maîtrise en beaux-arts au Whitecliffe College of Art and Design en 2009.

Simon a une grande expérience des matériaux et des surfaces et des intérêts tout aussi variés. Ces dernières années, il s'est intéressé à la notion de réutilisation de matériaux mis au rebut pour interroger la culture mondiale croissante de l'accumulation et de l'obsolescence. Il s'agit là d'une extension de son approche de collectionneur à l'égard des matériaux de référence.

Dans sa pratique artistique, il continue d'exprimer sa voix unique et personnelle en tant que peintre figuratif. Il utilise parfois un ensemble réduit de matériaux dans un effort pour capturer un sentiment de légèreté et d'immédiateté dans son travail.
